This week our essential question was "How do we use money?" We read stories about how people use money. Some people collect coins while others just use money to spend. We also learned about the early forms of money. Did you know that before there were coins, people tried to use rocks for money.
This week in writing, the students wrote an opinion/persuasive piece convincing me that they should be sent to third grade. They needed to back up their opinions with good reasons why they are ready for third grade. Some of the reasons were: they know their math facts, they can read chapter books and my favorite, they have neat handwriting. Needless to say, I think they are all well-prepared and ready to move on to third grade.
We started a new data unit in Math this week. We have been looking at graphs and answering questions about the information provided on the graph. We also have begun learning our multiplication facts. We started with easier facts like 0, 1 and 10 and are slowly adding in other facts to learn. This is something that could be practiced over the summer to help ease into third grade.
Just a reminder that next Friday, June 12 is our annual field day. Students should come to school prepared with sunscreen and a towel as they will get wet during the activities. Wearing a bathing suit under their clothes or bringing in a change of clothes is recommended.
Have a great weekend.
