Goodbye and Best Wishes!!

The time has come to say goodbye to another school year.  We have had a great year!!  It has been my pleasure teaching your children and watching them grow and mature.  They are all ready to move on to third grade and to a new teacher who will care for them as I did.

My advice for the summer would be to read lots of books, keep a journal, play math games and most of all, have fun!!!!

See you all in September!!

Readers Theater

This week we began our fun readers theater.  We have been practicing three different plays.  Slurping Beauty, Goldilocks and the Three Bullfrogs and Rafunzel.  The students have directed their own plays and created both the backgrounds and the props. This is just a fun end-of-year activity and hopefully we will get to perform in front of some of our school mates.

We continued to review in math.  We played some fun math games on the smartboard including a basketball shot game.  I impressed the students with my "fact power" by achieving a high score. This game can be found here: Basketball Shot Game .  If you have access to a computer at home, this is a fun way to practice facts.  Just search for math interactive games.  There are so many options to choose from.  This helps makes learning fun.

We met with our Book Buddies this week to complete a Humphrey quiz.  Thank you to Mrs. Devoy for creating the quiz.  The quiz was created using QR codes and the students used the iPads to read the questions.

One of the highlights this week was the chess tournament hosted by Mrs. Miller.  She taught all of the students how to play chess and then began a chess tournament with them.  They have had a lot of fun playing and competing with one another.

One more week to go..... Have a great weekend.  Hopefully the rain has passed and we will have some nice weekend weather.

The Many Faces of Cinderella

Throughout this week, we have been reading several versions of the Cinderella story.  We then compared and contrasted the stories.  Some of the stories we read were Yeh Shen (a chinese version), The Egyptian Cinderella, Cendrillon (Caribbean version), Rough-Face Girl and a few funny ones, such as Dinorella and Chickerella.  We also read one that was written from the stepmother's point of view called Seriously, Cinderella is So Annoying.

We continued to review math skills this week.  The students also took their final math facts assessment. Results will be sent home for your signature next week.  All of the students showed progress from the beginning of the year but some of the students still require some practice.  It is important as they progress into the next school year that the students know their addition and subtraction facts as the skills do become more difficult and not knowing the facts will deter their progress.

We are moving through the Charlotte's Web book.  We have met the beloved Charlotte this week. We have learned that Charlotte is formulating a plan to save Wilbur from being cooked for Christmas. What will she do?

Also this week, the students were so excited to start cursive writing.  The classroom had never been so quiet as the students concentrated on making their letters.  We will continue working on our packet through the rest of the year.  Maybe by the end of the year, some of the students will have mastered their signature.

As a reward for viewing my blog and working hard this past few weeks even though we all know the end is near print THIS. You may only use one a day!!

Another beautiful weekend is in store....Enjoy!!
