R-E-S-P-E-C-T

This was the week of Respect.  Although we had some fun activities like wearing boots, hats and wearing our shirts backwards, we have discussed what respect means and what it looks like.  We even had our first Guidance lesson about respect with Mrs. Fletcher, our guidance counselor.

This week in math we focused on addition skills.  We practiced number stories.  We are trying to build our "fact power."  Let them explain that to you.  We learned a shortcut for the +9 facts, too.

We have begun to make connections in reading.  The students were able to tell one another the connections they had to our book of the week, Asha in the Attic.  In writing we looked for inspiration outside and then wrote stories about what inspired them.  This was a great start to our story writing.  Next week we will be learning fun ways to begin a story!!

I am sure the students would agree that the most fun we had this week was in science.  We started talking about motion and to demonstrate motion, we created tops.  We even made special designs to see what would happen to them when they were spun.  You can create these at home.  You just need a small cardboard circle and a skinny straw.  Next week we will be making zoomers!!

Remember that Monday is a day off for the students.  Tuesday is our trip to the Firehouse.  Have a great holiday weekend.
