This week we read a book called The Ugly Pumpkin. The students then made ugly pumpkins of their own. They named them and wrote a description about them. The class had a lot of fun and they look great in our hallway.
We had a visit from the Woodbury Heights Fire Department on Tuesday to talk about Fire Prevention Week. The firefighters told the students some life-saving information. The class got to see a fire truck up close and saw all the amazing equipment that is used to fight fires and save lives.
This week in writing we learned how to tell a story on our fingers. Then write the story from our fingers. The students were amazed at how long they could write a story using this technique. They are becoming great story tellers which make great writers!!
We continue to practice math facts. You can help your child practice with the fact triangles they cut out for homework this week. They can be kept at home so that you can practice with them.
In Social Studies we discussed the three kinds of communities, urban, suburban and rural. It was a landslide when we made a human bar graph...our students would prefer to live in a suburban community.
The students had some fun in science this week as well creating zoomers. Some students were able to get their zoomer working right away. They can be made at home with some string and a piece of cardboard cut into a circle.
Don't forget...classroom visitation is Wednesday!! We are looking forward to your visit. I have some fun activities planned that may require some help from you!! Have a great weekend!!
